Today, we are going to be looking at the top 10 TV shows that mentioned Bitcoin;
The Good Wife
It was the first time ever bitcoin was mentioned on a TV show. The series which was aired on January 15, 2012, mentioned bitcoin in one of its episodes termed “Bitcoin for Dummies”. In the season 3 episode 13, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) defended a man who claims to represent the person who created a new online currency (Bitcoin) against the treasury department. Whereas, Diane (Christine Baranski) tries to play Kalinda to help the DA’s case instigated against him. In summary, the episode centered on ways of stopping a man that created a digital currency.
The Simpsons
The Simpson is another TV series that mentioned Bitcoin and cryptocurrency a couple of times. The TV series has so far mentioned Bitcoin and cryptocurrency three times in its episodes.
The first was on season 25, episode 7 titled “Yellow Subterfuge”.
The second time was season 26 episode 1 titled “Clown in the dumps” (Bitcoin was shown in the introduction).
The third time was season 31 episode 13 titled Frinkcoin (the episode explained cryptocurrency and blockchain).
Family Guy
The family Guy is another TV series that mentioned Bitcoin in one of its episodes. In season 14 episode 11 premiered in January 2014, Peter Griffin talked about investing in bitcoin. In the episode, he was seen saying “Every month our savings get smaller and smaller. We’ve really got to figure out a better way to budget for this family’s future. Bitcoin. I don’t know.”
Parks and Creation
The TV episode talked about bitcoin. In season 6, episode 16 of the popular TV series, Minetestbot was quoted saying “Just PayPal me some bitcoins when you get a chance”. Ironically, PayPal has now launched Cryptocurrency in its platform. It seems that the TV series saw the future.
Mr. Robot
The TV series mentioned bitcoin in season 2 episode 11 premiered in September 2016 titled “The Dark Room“. Mister Robot is a TV series that talks about a young New Yorker, Elliot, who works as a cybersecurity engineer in the day and a hacker in the night. In season 2 episode 11, Elliot was said to have been forced into fixing access to what turns out to be a dark web marketplace where weapons and drugs are available for sale in bitcoin.
The Big Bang Theory
Bitcoin was mentioned in season 11 episode 9 of The Big Bang Theory TV series. The episode shows Sheldon trying to teach the other guys a lesson after they tried to push him out from a potentially valuable Bitcoin investment seven years ago. It is one of the popular TV series that introduces Bitcoin in its plot thereby increasing the popularity of Bitcoin.
Alone Together
In season 2 episode 1 of the popular TV series premiered in 2018, Benji was seen thinking about his actions when Dean scolds him for letting a stranger into their house. Also, Esther discovers a Bitcoin windfall but in order to recover her bitcoin password she need to get in touch with her ex boyfriend. The episode portrays the importance of bitcoin and how valuable it is today.
Silicon Valley
It is another popular TV series that talked about Bitcoin in one of its episodes. In season 5, episode 3 of the TV series premiered on April 8, 2018, Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) and Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) were seen creating a plan on how to launch their own cryptocurrency in the hopes of making quick cash. They were fully obsessed with the cryptocurrency craze thinking that it will help them to raise enough capital and help them to stop their over-dependence on venture capital firms.
They were thinking that it will help them to change their brand image and help them to build a decentralized internet that will be fully funded by decentralized money. The episode is one of the popular TV series which highlights the importance of Bitcoin.
Billions
The USA TV series which premiered in 2016, mentioned bitcoin in one of its episodes. In one of its episodes which was released in May 2020, the episode talked about Bitcoin and Ledger hardware wallet. One unique thing about the episode is that it did not portray Bitcoin as a bad investment. The TV series which starred popular actors like Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis revolves around financial crimes.
Shameless
The popular TV series talked about Bitcoin in one of its episodes. Bitcoin was mentioned in the premiere of the 11th season of Shameless, in an episode titled “This is Chicago”
Dash, one of the leading characters in the series said “It’s my crypto, My Bitcoin. It’s down 30 and I was using it to leverage my Tether and my Ethereum. And another character responded, “I have no idea what you just said”. Dash continued: “Oil futures gutted my portfolio last spring. So, if there’s another two-point drop on my cryptos, I’ll have to cover a margin call.” Dash comments make more sense to real-world cryptocurrency traders as most of the words are common words that are associated with cryptocurrency.
Conclusion
So far, these were the top 10 tv shows that mentioned Bitcoin at least once in their episodes. As the value of Bitcoin keeps rising, we’ll be seeing more about it in our day-to-day life. Let’s hope that day is near.
